Considered by most to be one of the most rugged night vision housings ever made and a precursor to the modern RNVG, the Adams Industries Sentinel goggle was a significant enhancement and evolution of the AVS6/9 aviation goggle that operators appropriated for ground use in the 2010s.
Featuring a hybrid delrin/aluminum bridge and machined delrin pods, the AI Sentinel was and still is a highly sought-after housing known for its simplistic yet rugged design. Featuring adjustable Inter-Pupillary Distances via two outboard rotary knobs, and an on-board IR illuminator the Sentinel has a featureset very similar to the modern RNVG. Familiar PVS-14 knob and controls mean there is no re-training necessary to use the Sentinel.
An additional feature of the Sentinel is the inclusion and modularity with ball-detent systems. The included top plate can be swapped between dovetail and ball-detent mounting options for use with mounts like the Wilcox GSGM or other aviation mounts. The ball-detent system not only holds the goggle but provides power to the goggle. When users flip the goggle up with the ball-detent, power is automatically disconnected. Likewise, power is automatically restored immediately when the device is swung back into view.
This consignment AI Sentinel goggle features true US Milspec OMNI7 Green Phosphor image intensifier tubes with contract markings as follows:
Both tubes feature extremely good screen cosmetics, low halo, no "honeycomb" pattern, and overall high performance typical of OMNI 7 contract tubes. True contract tubes never came with spec sheets but OMNI 7 tubes were highly regarded as the highest performing omnibus specifications ever required with stringent specs as follows:
