As part of the Gen3 OMNI VII package, ITT developed the PINNACLE tube to contain an advanced autogated power supply, improved MCP hole size, a more sensitive photocathode, and other improvements to eliminate the temporary blindless caused by exposure to light too bright for the night vision device, and drastically reduce the halo effect around distant light sources. In the early 2010s, ITT consolidated production of its commercial image intensifier tubes and offered these same OMNI VII-qualified PINNACLE tubes inside the NE (Night Enforcer) PVS14-17. These are identified by the label on the unit that reads NEPVS14-17. This is not to be mistaken for units marked NEPVS-14-11 which were non-PINNACLE tubes.
A critical distinction that makes these Night Enforcers more desirable over true US Milspec OMNI VIII units were two fold:
They came with spec sheets
These were often sold to civilians who only used these units sparingly, compared to MIL units that were often simply handed down from soldier to soldier throughout the years and thus, often had a dubious history.
