It has come to our attention that lenses sold to us in our supply chain may not have been what they were purported to be. The lenses were sold to us as ‘Milspec PVS-14 Optics,’ purportedly made in the same facility as Qioptiq in Singapore. When we initially received the lenses we requested laboratory testing results. The results we received were taken on a Trioptics Image Master HR 2, demonstrating the lenses exceed military specifications, and the results can be found HERE and HERE. Additionally we conducted our own internal testing & evaluation, as well as comparison between Noctis/Carson with examples OEM'd by Fujinon and Edmund Optics with satisfactory environmental and optical results. The lenses were evaluated for the following key end-user performance metrics:
- off-axis flare reduction
- rectilinear distortion
- light transmission
- eye relief
- size of eyebox
With these qualitative and quantitative results, coupled with information from our supply chain, we made the decision to market and list the lenses as Qioptiq Milspec lenses.
While the investigation regarding the validity of the manufacturer/OEM and other claims is on-going, we have made the following adjustments effective immediately:
- ALL devices ordered prior to December 21, 2024 but have not yet shipped will be assembled with Noctis / Carson lenses prior to shipping.
- ALL non-Starter Kit night vision systems will be assembled exclusively with Noctis / Carson US Milspec lenses. (It should be noted that recent Starter Kits have been shipping with Noctis lenses)
- Product descriptions for these lenses have been modified to remove references to Qioptiq Milspec
- Customers can request Starter Kit systems to be assembled with Noctis / Carson lenses
We understand that this issue may be disappointing, especially if the product descriptions did not fully match what you received.
We will be publishing a comprehensive testing video on our YouTube channel comparing the lenses in question to Noctis and other lenses to be released in January 2025.
Any customer who may have received these lenses and would like to exchange may contact our sales team at sales@coldharboursupply.com with your order number and a photo of your device to initiate an RMA. We will rebuild your device with Noctis/Carson lenses and return it to you.
