The Cold Harbour CHAD (Cold Harbour Aperture Defender) is a lens protector for screw-in adjustable iris apertures that can be used for any night vision device that uses PVS-14 style optics, and allows users to see objects at all distances with perfect clarity and focus without needing to refocus the objective lens of their NVG.

Now with the option to add the CHS x Infinity CHAD-Finity cover at a discount for total light protection. The Chad-Finity is a Canadian-Made, flip cover specially designed to fit perfectly over the CHAD.

MATERIAL OPTIONS:

Polycarbonate Multi-Impact Rated

  1. Provides durable, multi-hit, rugged impact protection;
  2. ~90% Light Transmission
  3. 10-Year warranty against yellowing and lifetime warranty for breakage

Unlike other market offerings, the CHAD's ANSI-rated polycarbonate lens protects the host diaphragm and night vision device from not only dust and debris, but also high-velocity projectiles from force-on-force applications (airsoft bbs, sim rounds, UTMs), spalling from steel targets, etc, and has a lifetime warranty. See our test footage below!

Anti-Reflective US Milspec Glass

  1. Anti-reflective coating
  2. Sac lens protects NOD from single impacts, scratches and dust
  3. Easy to clean without worry about scratching from debris
  4. Over 95% Light Transmission
  5. Thinner material allows for the usage of 37mm pinch caps
  6. The same glass as the US Milspec PVS-14 Sacrificial Lens

Unlike other glass UV protectors from the market, the Glass CHAD uses a US milspec PVS-14 sac lens that has been optimally coated for light transmission for NVGs and cuts down on reflective elements that plague generic UV lenses. The hardened glass design allows for easy cleaning even in debris filled environments.

The Iris:

Traditionally, most night vision devices have a large objective lens and aperture size to allow the maximum amount of light into the intensifier. An unwanted byproduct of large aperture size is a shallow depth of field - if the user sets their objective lens focus for infinity, then objects within 20 feet are typically out of focus and blurry. Users typically have to delicately refocus their objective lenses for simple admin tasks (reading maps, adjusting kit, etc) which can be cumbersome, especially on devices with articulating pods.

The iris diaphragm - originally designed for camera lenses without adjustable apertures - solves the focus issue on NVGs by giving the user the ability to dial in the optimal amount of light into the host NVG to maintain full-focus at all distances. By reducing the amount of light, the depth of field increases and everything comes into focus. Because the CHAD is larger than the NVG's objective lens, at wide-open aperture, there is no signal degradation.

By restricting the amount of light entering the NVG, the adjustable diaphragm also acts as a pseudo gain control for auto-gain NVGs, reducing contrast and giving operators the ability to pick out minute details in high light scenarios and reduce blooming from bright light sources.

The smooth-running, knurled adjustment wheel along the entire circumference allows users the freedom to manipulate the adjustment wheel at any angle, making adjustments a breeze. From fully-open to fully-closed is only 1/4 turn of the wheel. When the diaphragm is fully-closed, the diaphragm size approximates the size of a milspec pin-hole day cap which means you can leave the assembly attached to your night vision device. (We still recommend a fully-closed cap for long-term exposure to light or storage)

Compatibility:

The CHAD-equipped iris aperture is compatible with any night vision device that uses PVS-14 style objective lenses, including, but not limited to: PVS-7, PVS-23 (F5050), Katana, Manticore, LLUL-21, Proton, RVM, RNVG, DTNVG/DTNVS, BNVD-1531, PVS-31C etc.

Tested to work on Milspec L3, Noctis Technologies (formerly Carson Industries) /Fujinon/Qioptiq/Edmund/Steele, RPO, and Photonis Defense Boomslang objective lenses.

May not work with Optronics/Apache/AGM lenses. Will not work with L3 PVS-31A/GPNVG18, for those devices, check out the CHAD-31A

Love the CHAD for its quality and sturdiness. Looking forward to it hopefully being compatible with the CHUB w/jerry C pro on a pvs-14 platform. Worth the purchase and peace of mind

love the iris, really like the chad. The combination of the iris and chad make it difficult to rotate the objective lens. If the compression is right on the metal ring you can use the two tabs the shock cord comes out of as levers to turn the lens but I don't like putting that type of stress on it. But then again maybe that friction isn't a problem. Could be that the metal tabs make it easier to adjust so long as it is not damaging the lens over time. My question would be how much can you tighten it down before you risk damage, and what would actually break? All in all its a good product. I'll buy it again when I bridge this talon into a raptor.

Using these on RPNVGS, In the law of diminishing returns these are so much better then infinity caps getting the Chad with the iris was a good decision they are good quality rubber caps that are well designed and had actually rnd put into them they work and don't get snagged don't waste money on infinite caps get these instead your wallet and your nods will thank you

I wanted something to compare to the Moondog SOAC Mini’s. These are larger in all dimensions (overall size, iris size and objective lens). The real noticeable difference is the anti-reflective coating. Works as intended. I like them over the polycarbonate lenses.

So glad I got them before they sold out. They work great and are extremely high quality.

A little bit sad that the lens doesn’t have a click once it gets to 5mm like shown in the video, but they both still work. I have to kind of eyeball and use my judgment when I think they are near the same size. (Talking about the iris)
